3 Tips on Hiring the Right Contractor for Your Roofs

With a number of companies offering home improvement services in Minneapolis, choosing the right one can be a bit difficult. Everyone claims that theirs is the best in the area. Choosing the wrong one can be an expensive mistake. But then again, you’ll never know if you hired the right one until you see the results. Fortunately, there is a way of at least discerning – that is, if you seriously take some of our tips on choosing the right roofer in Minneapolis:

 1.    Check for licenses, registrations, and training certifications. Ending up with a wrong contractor is bad enough, but picking a fake one is even worse! So, the first thing to do even before signing up is to check if they are registered and licensed by legitimate entities. Dealing with these people is quite dangerous that is why the authorities take them seriously. This article from sandiego6.com proves the point:

An undercover sting this week ended with 10 local contractors in handcuffs.

State and local officials teamed up to crack down on unlicensed contractors – especially in the wake of last month’s devastating wildfires. Even if you aren’t a fire victim, authorities say every homeowner should be on-guard against unlicensed contractors.

The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) shared undercover video with San Diego 6 showing what they say is an unlicensed contractor bidding on work at a home damaged by the Cocos Wildfire. The video excerpts are part of the evidence the San Diego District Attorney’s Office will use to prosecute ten unlicensed contractors.

The state set up the sting by posing as homeowners in the burned area of San Marcos. Officials told the contractors who showed-up at the home that they needed to rebuild a gazebo after the Cocos Fire. After the contractors left the house, San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies pulled over the men right down the road and put them in handcuffs.

2.    Spend time to background-check. You can check for feedback and reviews about the contractors at Angie’s List or Better Business Bureau. You can also contact their past clients and ask about their work, or actually check their finished job by yourself.

3.    Check for training certifications. Apparently, roofing works is no simple matter. That is why if you want to hire a contractor, make sure that they have gone through the right training because a right company will always make sure that their roofing techniques and products are always up to date.
