Why You Should Be Cautious About Low Roofing Bids

Why You Should Be Cautious About Low Roofing Bids

If it’s too good to be true, then it probably is. We all learn this little nugget of wisdom from the time we are young, and it is doubly true when it comes to roofing. For most people, a roof replacement is a sizable investment so it is easy to be tempted if you are offered an unusually low bid. However, you need to be extremely careful, especially if the bid is coming from a contractor who you don’t know. Here’s why.

Subpar Materials

The overall longevity of your roof will largely depend on the quality of the roofing materials. If roofers give you a very low estimate, there’s a pretty good chance that they are using off-brand or even low-quality materials. When in doubt about the quality of the materials, always stick to a reputable brand that offers excellent quality products.

Deliberately Underbidding

An unsavory roofing contractor may also deliberately submit a low bid to attract your business. For instance, these companies may misrepresent the number of labor hours needed. Labor costs represent a significant chunk of the overall price tag of a new roof, so listing a false or imprecise number will result in an inaccurate estimate.

Not Enough Experience

An inexperienced roofing company may offer its services for a much lower price as another tactic to attract business. While this in itself is not necessarily a bad thing, but when it comes to something as important as your roof, we highly recommend that you hire an experienced roofer who is less likely to make any costly mistakes.
